Funeral establishments fined for rule violations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The State of Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, disciplined two local funeral establishments during the month of July 2008 for rule violations.

McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Inc., of Maryville, Tenn. was issued a $350 Civil Penalty for violating Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Rules, and failure to affix a permanent identification device to the deceased human remains.

Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., of Maryville, Tenn. was issued a $250 Civil Penalty for failure to affix a permanent identification device to deceased human remains, and another dressed and casketed human remains lacked complete data required on the permanent identification device.

Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 56-1-302(a)(9) requires the Department of Commerce and Insurance to issue a release containing all disciplinary actions taken by each board during the prior month.
