George Herbert Davis Sr., 1919-2009

George Herbert Davis Sr., age 89, of Townsend, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital.  He was a member of Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.  He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after thirty-five years.  Preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Allen Davis; son, George Herbert Davis Jr.; his parents, Shannon and Kathryn Davis; brothers, Clay, Hurst, Mike, and John Davis; sisters, Coleen Davis, Rose Gregory, and Bertha Butler.  Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Benny Davis of Townsend; daughter-in-law, Sharon Davis; grandchildren, Doug Davis, Jennifer Davis, Vanessa and husband Jeremy Sutton, and Crystal and husband Johnathon Coats; two great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Davis of Minnesota; sister, Beulah Gregory of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009 in Smith’s West Chapel with the Rev. Ken Abbott officiating.  Family and friends will assemble Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Noon at Grandview Cemetery for the interment.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 S. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1942.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009.  Arrangements by Smith Funeral & Cremation Service.
