Charles Newman, 1923-2009

NewmanCharlesMARYVILLE, Tenn. – Charles Newman, age 85, of Maryville passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital.  He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church.  Charles was retired from ALCOA with 42 years of service and was a member of their 25-Year Club.  He was a faithful member of the Rockford Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. and a Veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.  Charles was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.  Preceded in death by: Parents, James and Mary Bell Newman; Son-in-law, Matt Cresse.  Survivors include: Wife of 44 years, Mary Ellen Newman; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Steve and Mary Newman of Townsend and Joe and Ninfa Newman of Las Vegas, Nev.; Daughter, Barbara Cresse of Maryville; 6 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; Brother, Melvin Newman of Etowah; Special Brother-in-law, Mick Humphrey; Special Sister-in-law, Helen Taylor.  Funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Rich Mullens officiating.  Entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. John United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2201 East Broadway Ave., Maryville, Tenn. 37804.  Family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Smith Trinity Chapel.  Arrangements by Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville.
