U.S. jobless rate spikes

WASHINGTON (VOA) – Job losses continued to ease in the U.S. as employers eliminated a net total of 216,000 jobs in August.  But while the number of Americans who lost their jobs last month was fewer than analysts expected, the latest government tally helped push the U.S. unemployment rate to its highest level in more than 26 years.  VOA’s Mil Arcega reports.
